SmackCast Setup Guide

Let's Get Your League Connected

No tech skills needed. Every step below is written for someone who has never done anything like this before — just follow along in order.

Only one of these is required to get episodes: connecting your fantasy league. Discord and GroupMe are optional extras.

1 · Connect Sleeper 2 · Connect ESPN 3 · Other Platforms 4 · Set Up Discord 5 · Set Up GroupMe
1

Connecting Your Sleeper League

The quickest one. Nothing to switch on, no settings to change — Sleeper just needs your username.

You don't need to be the commissioner, and you don't have to change anything inside Sleeper. Tell us your username and we'll show you every league you're in — you pick the one you want roasted.

Sleeper needs your username — the name for you, the one you sign in with. Not the name of your league, and not your team name. We'll find your leagues from it.
  1. Find your username. On your phone: open the Sleeper app and tap your profile icon (your avatar) in the bottom bar. The page that opens has a Username row — that's the one. On a computer: go to sleeper.com and click the settings icon in the lower-left, then Account. Sleeper's own walkthrough, with pictures: Account Settings.
  2. Come back here and go to Connect League.
  3. Under Pick Your Platform, choose Sleeper.
  4. Type your username into Your Sleeper Username and tap Find My Leagues.
  5. Your leagues appear in a list. Tap the one you want. That's it — you're connected.
2

Connecting Your ESPN League

ESPN keeps leagues private. Pick the way that fits the device you are on. Each takes about a minute.

The easy way: open smackagram.com/smackcast/connect and enter your league. If ESPN says it is private, the page works out your device and shows the easiest way first. The steps below are the same ones, for reference.

We will only ever see your league: scores, standings, rosters and matchups. Nobody can join it, manage a team, make trades or change a setting because of this.

On an iPhone Easiest on a phone

Use Safari. In Chrome, Facebook or Instagram, copy the page's link, open Safari and paste it in.

  1. Do this first, once. Open Settings and search for Shortcuts. If you don't see it, tap Apps, then Shortcuts. Tap Advanced and turn on Allow Running Scripts. If it's already on, leave it on.
  2. Add the free Smackagram shortcut. When Shortcuts opens, tap Add Shortcut again, then tap ◀ Safari at the top left to return.
  3. Open fantasy.espn.com in Safari and log in if ESPN asks.
  4. Tap Share, then Smackagram ESPN Connect. When your phone asks, tap Always Allow.
  5. Your leagues come back to Smackagram. Tap yours. Saw a message about a "scripting action"? Do step 1, then run the shortcut again.

On a computer with Chrome or Edge

The quickest way on a computer.

  1. Add the free Smackagram extension.
  2. Press Find my leagues on ESPN. If ESPN asks you to log in, do that first, then press the button again.
  3. Click your league.

On a computer with Safari or Firefox

The extension runs in Chrome or Edge, so finish it there.

  1. On the Connect page, click Copy the link (or Email me the link).
  2. Open Chrome or Edge and paste the link into the address bar.
  3. Follow the Chrome or Edge steps above.

On an Android phone

Finish it from a computer.

  1. On your phone, open the Connect page and tap Email me the link (or Text me the link).
  2. Open the link on a computer with Chrome or Edge.
  3. Follow the Chrome or Edge steps above.

League Manager? Make the league Public

Only the League Manager can change this setting. It takes about 30 seconds and works on a phone. Once it is set, the league connects from any device.

  1. On your phone or computer, open a web browser and go to fantasy.espn.com. Log in the way you always do to check your team.
  2. Open your league, then tap or click League near the top of the screen. On a phone, this may be under a menu (three lines, usually top-left or top-right).
  3. Tap or click Settings.
  4. Tap or click Basic Settings.
  5. Find the line that says Make League Viewable to Public and set it to Yes.
  6. Scroll to the bottom and tap or click Save Changes. That's it for ESPN.
ESPN: the League menu, then Settings
Steps 2-3: League, then Settings
ESPN League Settings: Basic Settings and the Make League Viewable to Public row
Step 4: Basic Settings
ESPN Basic Settings: Make League Viewable to Public set to Yes, then Save Changes
Steps 5-6: set it to Yes, then Save Changes
3

MFL, Fleaflicker & Fantrax

All three work the same way: find the league ID in your league's web address, paste it in.

  1. Open your league in a web browser and look at the address bar.
  2. The league ID is the long number in that address. Fleaflicker and Fantrax show it right after /league/. On MFL it's usually five digits, like 32001.
  3. Go to Connect League, pick your platform, paste the ID and tap Connect League.
Fantrax right now: public leagues only, football only, head-to-head points scoring only. If yours doesn't fit that, get in touch and we'll tell you where it stands.
4

Setting Up Discord

Optional. This makes every new SmackCast episode post itself straight into your league's Discord channel — nobody has to remember to check the website.

  1. Open Discord (the app, or discord.com in a browser) and go to your league's server.
  2. Click the server's name at the top-left corner, then click Server Settings in the menu that pops up.
  3. On the left-hand list, click Integrations.
  4. Click Webhooks, then click New Webhook. A "webhook" just means "a web address Discord will listen for messages on" — you'll never see or touch it again after this.
  5. Choose which channel in your server you want SmackCast episodes to show up in.
  6. Click Copy Webhook URL. This copies a long web address to your clipboard. Feel free to rename the webhook to "Smacky" if you want — it's not required.
  7. Come back to Smackagram, open Your League, check the Discord box, and paste that address into the box that appears. Save it, and you're done.

Don't want this? Skip it — episodes are always available on the website either way.

5

Setting Up GroupMe

Optional. Same idea as Discord — every new episode gets posted straight into your league's GroupMe chat.

  1. On a computer (this page doesn't work well on the GroupMe phone app), open a web browser and go to dev.groupme.com.
  2. Log in using the same username and password you already use for GroupMe.
  3. Click Bots, then click Create Bot.
  4. Choose which GroupMe group (your league's chat) you want episodes posted into.
  5. Give the bot any name you like — for example, "Smacky".
  6. Leave Callback URL and Avatar URL blank. You don't need either one.
  7. Click Submit.
  8. GroupMe will show you something called a Bot ID — a long string of letters and numbers. Copy that entire string. Important: copy the Bot ID, not the name you typed in step 5.
  9. Come back to Smackagram, open Your League, check the GroupMe box, and paste that Bot ID into the box that appears. Save it, and you're done.

Don't want this? Skip it — episodes are always available on the website either way.
