Kid With A Bat Just Made San Diego's Bullpen Sweat
FINAL · Houston Astros 6 @ San Diego Padres 3
The Houston Astros walked out of Petco Park with a 6-3 win, and most of the damage came from a guy named Cam Smith who apparently didn't get the memo that you're supposed to ease into a big-league game. Smith went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBI, which is the kind of afternoon that makes a starting pitcher want to go eat lunch alone.
That starting pitcher was Robbie Ray, who gave San Diego five innings and four earned runs before the Padres bullpen inherited the mess. Ronel Blanco wasn't exactly untouchable on the other side — 4.2 innings, three earned runs — but Houston's offense did the heavy lifting once Smith started swinging.
Fernando Tatis Jr. went deep for the Padres, going 2-for-5 with a homer, but San Diego couldn't get anything else going when it counted. Final score: Astros 6, Padres 3. Cam Smith, call your people.
