Gausman Went Seven, Lynch Went One-Point-Two — You Do The Math

Kevin Gausman was the whole show Tuesday night, spinning seven innings of two-run ball and leaving Kansas City's lineup looking thoroughly confused about its life choices. The Cubs walked out of Kauffman Stadium with a 6-4 win, and it wasn't particularly close once the starter situation became apparent. Daniel Lynch IV lasted exactly one inning and two outs before the Cubs had tagged him for four earned runs and Kansas City's bullpen was already warming up its apology tour. Pedro Ramírez chipped in a home run to make things properly uncomfortable for the home crowd. Carter Jensen hit a solo shot to keep the Royals from total embarrassment, but when your starter exits before the second inning is finished, cosmetic homers only go so far. Cubs win, 6-4. Lynch's afternoon was short. Gausman's was long. That's the whole story.
